suh-suh-suh-summer

IT'S SUMMER!  Well for me, it has been summer for nearly a week now.  It's super glorious.  So far, my days have consisted of nothing.  Lounging, biking, reading, nothing.  I love it.  I was looking forward to summer quite a lot, mostly because I just wanted to be done with freshman year.  Not that I didn't love it!  Because I did thoroughly enjoy my first year of college.  I do miss my college friends though -- Mike, Luke, Matt, Ben, Ben, Andrew, Brian, Ryan, Ryan, Joey, Carsten, Bryce, Erica, Heidi, Amanda, and more!  We had some pretty fun times :)

Anywho, I've got quite the summer reading list this year (and a movie watching list, but we've already discussed that).  Currently, some books are my list are:

-- Pledged (reading now)
-- Shelter Me
-- Summer People
-- Q & A
-- Nineteen Minutes
-- The Alchemist
-- Me Talk Pretty One Day

And others.

What are my plans for this summer (besides reading) do you ask?  Well, I will tell you.

:  Find a job (preferably SOON)
:  Get into shape (stupid college)
:  Jet-ski/boating
:  Sch-wimming
:  Paint
:  RELAX
:  Not think about school
:  Finish putting away my college things
:  Learn to be a more successful cook (pico de gallo!)
:  Write a short story
:  Attend many, MANY movies
:  Lay out and watch the stars
:  See as many firework displays as possible
:  Attend every county fair in sight
:  Devour sweet corn
:  Road-trip
:  Go to the Harry Potter exhibit in Chicago

Okay, that's a lot of stuff right there.  Probably a little overwhelming.  You more than likely didn't want to know all of that.

Alright, I gotta go, but thanks for reading!  Dad's barbequing tonight, how exciting!

it's been awhile...

Approximately... seventeen days.  Oufta.  I bet you missed me.

Anywho, I'm currently in my second dead week of my college career.  It's really not that dead, actually it's kind of lame.  We're not supposed to have club activities or anything outside of classes (which is true, because we don't), but could the teachers not give quizzes or homework? Cause that'd be awesome. Like... super awesome.

I've been procrastinating pretty bad lately.  I just don't want to do any of the things I have to do.  I can't wait until summer. ABSOLUTELY CANNOT WAIT.  This is calling my name --->

What else have I been up to??  Well it was my birthday not too long ago, but it was also my sister's prom.  I shouldn't say "but".  It was my sister's prom on that day too!  It was fun because I got to help her get all ready and take some pictures as well.  I'm glad she gets to experience prom because it really is a lot of fun.  Not to mention, her and her date looked pretty good.  I personally loved the dress she chose.  (See below for photo.)  Yeah, they're pretty classy.
Anywho, I made this nifty mosaic today.  It's really sweet.  I've found Flickr, hahhaha (it's where I got the pictures).  I know people have been using it since practically forever.. but I never realized how awesomely amazing it is!  People take such great pictures.  I would absolutely love to be a photographer, sincerely.  There are so many things I want to do it's insane.  Oh well. Hopefully I find time for it all!  Between an aspiring magazine writer to either a English or Spanish teacher, to a book store owner, and then we gotta fit the photography in there!  Oh man.

Oh.  So here's the mosaic:
I like it anyway.
So, hmmm... I suppose I should work on my final for my teaching class?  I think that sounds like a good idea.

Anywho, have a superb day!

I forgot to tell you... I have a secret obsession with the Jonas Brothers.  I probably couldn't even give you a solid reason as to why I like them so much.  It's actually pretty dang bad.  I, personally, am pretty open to any kind of music genre, so there's no way I'm going to shut them out because they're "pop" or "girly".  Have you listen to Nick or Joe sing?  Really, they have some pretty decent vocals.  Granted, they are not my absolute, all-time favorite group/musicians, but I do enjoy their music.  It's feel good!  Their music makes me happy. Sometimes all the depressing songs just get old and I don't care to listen to it.  Lovebug is my personal favorite Jo Bro song.  Seriously, it makes me smile.

Okay, so where was my point with that??  Right, I'm going to their concert this summer. :) Anddd.. on their new album (due out in June, Rolling Stone magazine calls it one of the year's 45 biggest albums) they have a song called Poision Ivy.  YE-AH.  I'll just say it's about a girl who's intoxicatingly hard to resist.

I suppose now is a good time to mention that they wrote it about me?

You could call me cocky.

Alright, so I'm gonna peace out now.  Sorry again about that Jonas Brothers rant.  I'm sure you think I'm most definitely ridiculous.  What can I say?  I do not disagree with you.

rowdy dogs

My little dog, Ellie, loves to bark. Seriously. You stick her in the backyard and all she does is yap her fool head off. It makes me feel bad for our neighbors because sometimes we just get annoyed with her and leave her out there. We should probably just bring her inside and scold her. If she's barking at people outside though, she does get a good talking to. Just look at her though... she's too cute to resist! And she's sassy. Super sassy. For Christmas 2007, Emma and I bought her that flashy little collar she's got on. Yeah, then she felt pretty dang sexy.

If a dog can feel sexy. I guess I really don't know.

Anyway, I was sick this entire past week. It sucked something major. It all started out with a stuffy nose, then it slowly proceeded to throw up and nastiness. I missed two days of classes and am currently two and a half chapters behind in my psych reading. No biggie though, right? Hahhaha. I honestly just cannot wait for this school year to be finished. I get the feeling that after freshmen year it gets a little easier to adjust to the new college life.

Next weekend I'm coming home (again) for my little sister's prom. It should be a fun ordeal, as she has purchased this really pretty dress. And okay, that chick is not my sister. Unless you chop her legs off at the knee and color her brown, then it could be questionable. I do love the dress though, I think I would have picked it for myself had I been going to prom again. It'll be exciting for her to get her hair all done and all the jazz.

Last night, I saw the movie I Love You, Man. Gooood movie. It was rather funny. I went to it with my sister and my two cousins (16 and 14 year-olds). I believe they all enjoyed it as well. Lot of good quotes from that movie, definitely.

Okay, speaking of movies... would you like to hear my top movies to see for this up and coming summer? (The ones that I know of anyway.) I think you do, so here they are in no particular order:

Night At The Museum 2: Battle Of The Smithsonian
Disney Pixar's Up
Land of the Lost
Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Now, here are some others that sound like they have quite the potential for being ones I will see:

Angels and Demons
The Taking Of Pelham 123
Year One
Public Enemies
Inglourious Basterds

That's all for now. I will try to keep you updated on how those movies turn out. That is, if I have the money to attend all these! Oh, but I forget that there's a new, cheap theater in town! Ohhh the glory.

Well, I suppose that's enough for now. I should shower and maybe visit some family while I'm in town.

Byyeee.

V8 and triple majors

Sooo... Thursdays.. eh?

I'm currently not accomplishing my English outline for the huge research paper I have to do. Okay, not that huge. But, it's six pages and my topic is the psychological effects of divorce on children. Yeeahhhh. It's okay though, I can handle it. I actually love writing papers as long as I can write them about what I want to write about. Anyway, I'm supposed to have an outline done for it because I have to meet with my teacher for a "conference". Should be good.

I love spring. Sometimes I think I use the word "love" too often. Some people say, "OHMYGOSH, I LOOOVEEE PUPPIES!!" I don't care for that. I like to switch up my adjectives. So actually what I wanted to say was, I have a strong inclination toward spring. (I seriously hope that makes sense cause I just looked it up in the thesaurus.) ---Insert picture of thesaurus here. Sorry, it's not letting me put up pictures right now.---

Oh. I'm supposed to let you know that I'm talking to the most kick ass person right now, and no it is not Aerosmith...it's B-Ritta. That's her little shout-out.

V8's new juice, V-Fusion is the most amazing juice ever. I was very skeptical on trying this juice, but it is absolutely delicious. You'll have to look for it in stores. It has a full serving of both fruits and vegetables, but it doesn't taste like veggies at all! I've seen three flavors so far: pomegranate berry, strawberry banana, and peach mango. I've only had the first two cause I'm not a fan of peach, but it's probably good.

So.. I'm thinking about adding another major??? CAN THIS BE POSSIBLE? So far I've already got a double major in Journalism/Mass Communications and English Education. The other major I'm considering is Spanish. It'll only be an extra class a semester... but I don't know. I think I'm going to study abroad next summer in Spain, so that'll definitely help my Spanish-speaking skills! I can't help it that I absolutely adore that language. It's weird. Don't worry, I know.

Uhhmm... so that's pretty much it for today. I'm really hyper and I should get going to use this energy to get stuff done. Like that outline. AH!

Adios amigos.

food science SUCKS

Guess what? FOOD SCIENCE SUCKS. It's possibly the worst class I've ever taken in my whole entire life. Seriously! I'm not even being over-dramatic. There are not many classes outside of the math area that I complain about. Never will I voluntarily take such a class again.

Oh, yeah I have a test in it tomorrow. FML.

Anyway, on a better note, tomorrow is the start of the weekend. I'm doing a service project on Saturday at a softball field, which should be fun. I actually don't mind doing volunteer work and would love to do more. What I really would enjoy would be volunteering at the Humane Society. I was going to do that this year but I found out that you have to commit for a year and I don't know if they'd let me do that since I'm not here in the summer. It'd probably be worth a shot though. I love animals, especially dogs. I used to work at a dog breeding (coughpuppyfarmcough) and my favorite part was the puppy room. And I don't even say that to be one of those girls that's all like, "OHMYGOSH, HE'S SOOOOOO CUUTEEE!" They're annoying. Mostly cause they have super high-pitched voices that makes me want to physically take out their voice boxes.

Today we talked about euthanasia in my developmental psychology class, it was crazy. We were talking about morality and Kohlberg's six stages of moral development. I don't know how I feel about euthanasia. On one hand, if somebody is suffering and they know that they can't take it anymore, I could see why someone would do it. But what if they found a cure for whatever it is they had the next week? Then you have to deal with that guilt. I dunno.. it's quite the touchy subject and I think that's actually all I wanna say about it.

Just throwing this out there, but I love sparkling water. Really, who was smart enough to create tasty, bubbly water?? I tell ya who... Torbern Bergman. Yeah, just wikied that shiz. It tastes so delicious though. And it tricks me into thinking I'm drinking sparkling grape juice (also the shiz) because of the carbonation. Yummmy. I guess it can cause dental erosion, but really since when do people care about that? I'm thinking about going all George Washington with some nice, wooden teeth. Yeeahhhhh.

Uhhhmmm what else can I tell you?? I don't know that there is a whole lot else going on today. I absolutely can't wait for summer and some freedom from classes. I was thinking about taking summer classes but honestly? I can't take anymore classes right now, nor in the summer. I'm going to take it nice and easy.

The other day I tripped going up the stairs.

Yeah. I'm one of those girls. Oh, of course it was in the library where it's extremely quiet. What is up with that?!?!

I had a spanish test today and I kicked its face into the next millennium.

Okay I'm rambling now, BYEEE.

kit kats and tv

Kit Kats are the sustenance of life. At least my sustenance of life. I was craving one so bad today that I had to have my sister pick me up one from Movie Time. Those Kit Kats aren't even as fresh as the gas station ones! That just goes to show how desperate I was. I also annihilated a bag of Funyuns -- some of the best chips to ever grace the planet. And for those readers who don't know what Funyuns are, shame on you. Anyway, here's a picture to let you know what you're missing.

Right now I'm watching The Secret Life of the American Teenager. I've never even watched an episode. It's pretty decent. I thought it was gonna be all corny and stuff, but it's alright. There sure are a lot of teenage pregnancy TV shows and movies out. Juno... this show... Okay.. guess I can't really think of any other ones but it seems like there's a crap ton. Oh.. a commercial for the new show, Sophie, came on. That looks like a dumb show. My show of choice on the ABC Family network is Greek. I'm obsessed with that show. For those of you who don't know what it is, I encourage you to watch it on March 30th at seven PM for the new season premiere. It's more of a chick thing, but who knows.. guys may like it too. One of my favorite characters is Dale. He's the super religious guy who makes sure his roommate, Rusty, knows that Jesus Christ himself is sitting on his shoulders everywhere he goes. Hahahah, if I knew some quotes off the top of my head I'd shoot them off for you. You gotta watch for yourself. Granted, it's probably not quite accurate of college life, but it's entertaining at least.

My favorite show of all-time is definitely Gilmore Girls. I love the witty banter and sarcastic remarks that the writers incorporate into the show. I own every season on DVD except season four. I plan to wait until it goes on sale for $15.00 as it often does. It's on at four o'clock everyday on ABC Family, so WATCH IT.

The summer job hunt is on. It's so sucky that the economy is down the tube because I really need a job. I think I'm going to return to my job from last summer at the town newspaper, but I need another job on the side. For that, I'm thinking about applying to do custodial work at the high school. Hopefully that works out cause it'd be super nice to earn extra cash for college.

Man I wish I had some ice cream right now. I GOT NEW SHOES. This is exciting for me. The last time I got a good new pair of shoes that cost a decent amount of money was like... two years ago when I got my Converse. Mom must have been feeling a little crazy because she let me get a new pair of Converse (which are sweet) and a pair of Nikes (which I haven't owned since probably the eighth grade). Since I'm blessed with narrow fit (unlike the rest of my family), I can fit into pretty much any shoe. So finding them isn't so much of a problem. My mom, on the other hand, has a terrible time trying to find ones that are wide enough. It's not like she has duck feet, they're.. indian feet, as she calls them. Whatever, we'll go with that. I guess Nike makes shoes for people with indian feet because they're unnaturally wide. Go figure. Nike does everything.

Wow, that's enough talking for today. Gotta try to accomplish some spanish homework!

Tootles.

spring break

SPRING BREAK IS COMING!!

Excitement is in the air. Especially for those who have decided to visit a tropical location for their spring break. That does not include me. My plans are to go home and R-E-L-A-X. I'm going to do my homework straight away so I don't have to think about it, then I'm going to curl up with my books that I've been wanting to read. Summer People and Shelter Me are the ones that I'm going to read. My sister also wants me to read Q and A (Slumdog Millionaire). I'm very pumped to read these and can hopefull get it done by the end of the week!

Anywhozzile, things have been going decently well for me. Megan and Chad visited last weekend, so that was incredibly fun and I was VERY glad to see them. We had a ball, then they had to leave Sunday around one. Stupid Daylight Savings Time screwed me over on sleep. I wasn't happy. It didn't help that we were hanging with the boys all weekend and most of them were sick. So not only did I contract sickness and was out of class for two days, Josh is sick and Chad is also getting ill. I hope they take the necessary precautions to avoid terrible sickness. Mine was pretty bad. I had a sore throat and felt like spewing yesterday. Not fun at all.

Yesterday Katie picked up my Bare Minerals foundation for me, as I couldn't get into town. That was nice of her (if you didn't know, Katie is my roomie). I love that stuff. I don't exactly love the price... Good foundation is good foundation though! My aunt got it for me a couple of years ago and I loved it. But I ran out and couldn't get to a Sephora anywhere near me, so I settled for the Sonia Kashuk brand. Good stuff too, but just not the same.

Wow.. who knew I could go on about make-up for so long? Not me.

Have I told you that I want to intern at Seventeen magazine? Well.. I do. I shot them an e-mail yesterday asking what all I need to do to prepare for applying for it. Hopefully they get back to me soon... it'd be my absolute dream to intern there! I'm going to work my tail off so I have a better chance.
Okay, more late.. I gotta go eat!
ADIOS!

naps and illness

I'm not sick. But I was this morning. And because of that I missed my eight o'clock class. Well.. I made sure to e-mail my teacher before class and I called the her office. I guess I need a doctor's note though. Guess what? I DON'T HAVE A DOCTOR'S NOTE. Because guess what else? Not everyone goes to the doctor the first day they are sick! And now I might fail the class because I missed one day. WTS?

You see the things I deal with? Do you see? And my teacher is nice! I like her! So I hope she'll give me another shot... I really don't care to schedule an appointment that I don't need.

So while I skipped my class because of my dry heaves, I decided to go back to sleep because I only had gotten four and a half hours of sleep. This is what college does to me. I DON'T EVEN HAVE A NORMAL SLEEPING PATTERN! Another thing I learned at college... I'm a very good procrastinator. I never used to procrastinate. I did assignments as soon as I could to get them done. Now... that is not the case. And I have so much reading I have to do! It never ends. At least in high school you knew that you could only do the assignments you were given, and not any more than that. Well now they give you a syllabus so you know when everything is due. So once you get something done you're like, "Hmm... I could do this now to get it done with.." It's perpetual!

My roommate just came in with ten breakfast sandwiches and was all like, "Can I fit these in the freezer??" NO KATIE. YOU CAN'T. Our freezer is literally the size of a large pencil case. Then she proceeds to ask me if I can go find somewhere outside to store them so they stay cold. NO. NO I WILL NOT. She's so random.

Okay, I gotta go now and attempt to do homework and complete my FAFSA tonight. Oh and come up with a logical reason for missing my journalism class this morning. One that won't make me fail.

Yayyy college!

bicycles are dangerous

This is what I've determined today:
Me on a bike = bad news bears.

My logic behind this is definitely sane. Josh brought down my bike so I can zoom around campus, so today I tried it out. I did pretty decent I think, except for when I nearly killed a girl. I was toying around with my gears and saw her in front of me, but what I did not realize was that she was turning toward me to go into a building. It was too late to hit the brakes, so I swerved like a mad man to avoid hitting her. I'm pretty sure she about pissed her pants.

Oh, this is the walkway where the girl narrowly avoided death --

Do you know what's upsetting? I NEVER receive any mail. I don't know about the rest of you, but getting mail is like my favorite thing in the whole world. (Unless it's a bill... or something else that has to be paid.) The only stuff I ever get is from the university. Screw that. Well, some of the stuff they send is useful, but most of the time... not really. I just throw that junk in the garbage ASAP.

Wanna know something else? I made a sweet bulletin board for our dorm room door. It's freaking sweet. That's about all I can say. Except that I know you're jealous.
Yeahh.. I'm pretty proud.
What else can I tell you?? Did I tell you I had fun with Britta? I think so. Chad and Megan are coming to visit on Friday and I'm soooooo pumped. It'll be one crazy weekend, that's fo sho.

I have so much homework to do today, it's insane. I should probably start that.
But I think I'm going to take a nap first. :)

Goodbye all! Thanks for reading. Hopefully they don't bore you to death...

stupid credit card companies

Okay, so this is probably my fault.. but I'm thinking U.S. Bank is trying to screw me over. First, they sent me a credit card last August and I mistakenly thought it was my debit card, so I activated it. MY BAD. My mom told me to keep it so I can use it for emergencies or whatever though. Then she proceeded to tell me that I need to make one purchase a year so I don't get smacked with a huge fine. Well I made that one TINY purchase and never received a statement. I guess I signed up for the e-statements which means that I don't get a paper statement. Since I never received a paper statement.. and though the e-mails they were sending me were the debit card statements, I never paid it (this purchase was made in January). Now they docked my credit score from 400 to 300. Douchebags. I will admit, I definitely need to keep better record of my personal finances, but still. COME ON, GIVE ME A BREAK!

Gah. Good news though, Josh is bringing my back to campus! Now I get to cruise around and hit innocent students. What a joy.

I'm not looking forward to class tomorrow. I have a crap ton of homework to do tonight, and I have to deal with U.S. Bank. Ick.

I did have an enjoyable time at Britta's though! I got to see cousin Aaron and just chill, which is always nice. I cannot wait for next weekend when Chad and Megan visit! It will be completely awesome.

I just have to keep reminding myself... less than two weeks until spring break.... thank heaven.

That's all for now, if I've got time later I'll make sure to add another post cause this one was pretty dang boring.

CHAO!

take pills according to the directions

Hmmm... what's new in the life of Ivy today you ask? Not a whole lot. Here was my schedule for today:

9:38 AM -- awaken from a late night slumber then a nice shower
10:28 AM -- decide to skip my 11 o'clock class to pack for BRITTA'S!
11:00 AM -- take a vitamin that I was supposed to take with food.. but without the food part
11:51 AM -- walk across campus to my only class of the day and feel the after effects of taking that pill without food
12:08 PM -- watch Religulous in my English 250 class
1:00 PM -- walk to the MU and eat lunch
2:07 PM -- wait for the bus to get my car
2:43 PM -- leave for Britta's!
4:20 PM -- arrive and have a PAR-TAY!

I realize that was a long-winded explanation of my day, but you're the one reading the blog, so that's your problem.

I'm trying to think if there's any big dilemma I had today. OH! So my cousin Aaron, who goes to the same college as Britta, would like me to stop and visit. But guess what? Cousin Aaron likes to not answer his phone or any text messages. FINALLY he called me back after four hours of attempted contact. I guess I can forgive him though cause he was at an event.

My car is a POS. Just throwing that out there. The speedometer shakes when it goes past 60 mph. Oh, and you can pull the keys out of the ignition while you're driving it.

Pretty sure you're not supposed to be able to do that. Oh well.

I guess it's really not that bad of a car because... well I didn't have to pay for it and the only thing I do have to pay for is gas and occasionally other fixes it needs. As long as it runs, I'm one happy son-of-a-gun.

Hmmm... what else can I tell you all? How about my obsession with post-its and chapstick? As you may have noticed, my URL is chapstick and post-its. I use chapstick everyday, every hour of my life. It is basically an addiction.

They tried to get me to go to rehab, but I said no, no, no.

(This is the kind I currently own.)

And post-its? They're just wonderful. They're absolutely great for organization and remembering things. Things like... calling my mom and dad. Or meetings. Or they're also good for remembering how much money I owe my roommate, she loves that.
So, there are my stories for today. Now I'm going to go watch Step Brothers with Britta.
"I just saw my son use a bicycle as a weapon."

numero uno

Hello to my new blogging friends. Here is my first blog. I bet you're all excited and stuff.

I hope this doesn't let you down, but I don't know how wonderful this little blog is going to be. We're just trying it out.

Anywho, let's start off with why I decided to start a blog. Basically it went something like this:

Me: "Should I create a blog?"
Me: "Ehhhh... okay."

And a baby blog is born. I guess my goal in writing about my silly life is to entertain you all. And to kinda keep track of the stuff I do from day to day. Oh and I apologize in advance if I have any grammatical errors, feel free to correct me at any time.

Here's how my day was today:
8:30 AM -- wake up and cry
9:40 AM -- eat a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios
10:00 AM -- go to Spanish
11:40 AM -- eat lunch
12:25 PM -- get on a bus with Luke and Mike because it was raining
12:40 PM -- sit in my Social Foundations of American Education class
1:46 PM -- walk to Cu
rtiss Hall for my Developmental Psychology class
3:16 PM -- walk b
ack to the dorm and do jack squat for the rest of the evening

Okay, so here's th
e thing about the rain. I love the rain, except when it's cold rain. At the beginning of the year, I made it a point to purchase this ever-so-cute zebra print umbrella at Target. Little did I know, that umbrella was absolute CRAP. It turns out that the ever-so-cute zebra umbrella likes to flap around in the wind and not even protect me from the rain at all. So on Monday, I went to Target (my favorite store, BTW) to purchase a nice, sturdy umbrella. This one is even more pretty than the zebra one! It's orange with purple and red daisies (see left). Trust me, it's glorious. I was looking forward to using this new umbrella when it rained and was especially excited when I found out it was supposed to rain Thursday (today). Well, I'm leaving for lunch and trying to decide if the rain fooled me into thinking it was coming today; therefore I did not grab my new umbrella. Well guess what? IT FREAKING RAINED AND I HAD TO USE THE CRAPPY UMBRELLA. Eff that business, right? That's what I said.

That was my big dilemma for the day.

Oh, except my roommate left for Iowa City tonight and decided to set her full bag of garbage right underneath my bed. What a jerk.

I'm telling you, this is my daily life. It's not exactly what some may call, "riveting", but I find it funny.

Oh, and I'm going to try to put a website link to things I find worthwhile.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_efZhYOcr1U&feature=channel_page
